HOW TO FEED YOUR DOG A HEALTHY RAW DIET

RAW FEEDING MADE SIMPLE

Thinking about switching your dog to a raw diet? Great choice. At Raw Treat Pet Food, we’re all about keeping things as stress-free as possible. No gimmicks. No hidden extras. Just proper, species-appropriate food that helps dogs thrive.

If you’re new to raw feeding, here’s a simple, no-nonsense guide to get you started.

WHY RAW?

Dogs are built for raw – it’s really that simple. A fresh, unprocessed diet supports healthier digestion, shinier coats, cleaner teeth, and all-round better wellbeing. Our meals are made using only human-grade ingredients in our DEFRA-approved facility, so you can trust that what’s going into the bowl is the real deal.

HOW MUCH SHOULD YOU FEED?

Every dog is different, but here’s a straightforward guideline you can rely on:

For adult dogs:

Feed 2–3% of their ideal bodyweight per day to maintain a healthy condition.
Split it into one or two meals – whichever suits your dog and routine best.

WHAT TO FEED?

If you’re feeding Raw Treat Pet Food, you’re already on the right track. Our 80/10/10 meals follow the natural canine diet structure:

  • 80% meat

  • 10% bone

  • 10% offal

Everything is double-minced for consistency, manageable bone size, and easy feeding.

We recommend feeding a variety of proteins throughout the week as this helps provide a nutritional balance, prevent food sensitivities, promote better digestion, and providing a complete amino acid profile for overall health and wellbeing.

HOW TO TRANSITION

You can switch cold turkey (most dogs do brilliantly), or take it slower if your dog has a sensitive tummy or is on the fussy side.

Cold turkey:

Stop the current food. Start raw the next meal.
Easy.

Gradual transition:

Start with ¼ raw + ¾ current food, then increase the raw portion over 3–4 days.

Go at your dog’s pace – some settle in a day, others take a little longer.

TOP TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  • Keep an eye on your dog’s weight and adjust portions as needed

  • Introduce new proteins one at a time

  • Make sure you’re serving the food fully defrosted

  • Fresh water should always be available

  • Keep hygiene front and centre – clean surfaces, bowls, and hands

Raw feeding doesn’t need to be complicated. With the right food and a bit of guidance, you’ll be well on your way.
